Marika AIlvalis was born in 1928 in Bucharest, Romania, to a Greek family living in the country. She describes her family’s history and her childhood during World War II. Under the Communist regime, her family fled to Greece as refugees. Marika later worked at the Ladonas Dam, where she met her husband, Dimitris Aivalis. After losing their jobs, they decided to migrate to Canada. They settled in Toronto, where Marika built a new life, working and raising her children.
