Giorgos Dimitrakopoulos was born in Kastoria in 1952. He was exposed to politics early on and became connected with the Greek political party ERE. Dimitrakopoulos migrated to Canada and settled in Toronto as a child. He attended school and faced the challenges of being a migrant. Dimitrakopoulos became actively involved in the Pan-Macedonian Association of Toronto from a young age and later became its president, focusing on organizing the group and its activities. He also played soccer with Omiros F.C.
