Dora Avramis (née Griva) was born in 1947 in Metamorphosi, Laconia. Her life was shaped by her father’s migration to Canada in 1951. After six years, the latter brought the rest of the family to Canada in 1957. Growing up in Toronto, she faced discrimination while making determined efforts to learn English through school, and he love for books. She studied political science at the University of Toronto and later pursued graduate studies at the University of Michigan. Dora worked in administrative positions in public libraries in Toronto. She married Basil Avramis and played an important role in shaping the Basil Avramis Greek Show.
