Maria Beveridge (née Moura) was born in Lesvos in 1944, where she lived until she began her university studies in Athens as a philologist. In the 1960s, she migrated to Kitwe, Zambia, and recalls her journey vividly. There, she worked at a Barclays Bank and built friendships with both locals and foreigners. She married and moved to England for her husband’s master’s studies, then returned to Zambia for four years. Political unrest in Africa led her family to move to Canada in 1977, describing how they adjusted to life in North America. In 1993, she relocated to Hong Kong, where she had new cultural experiences and participated in a small Greek church housed in an apartment. After ten years, she returned to Canada in 2003.
