Chris Tzekas was born in Amyntaio in 1954 and soon migrated to Canada, where he spent his childhood and school years in Toronto. He pursued law studies and was called to the Bar, later working at the law firm WeirFoulds LLP while becoming active in the Hellenic Canadian Lawyers Association. Tzekas represented the Hellenic Home in municipal matters. He recalls visiting Greece and being drafted in 1974, and he describes his understanding of the Macedonian issue.
